In 2019, thanks to the vision of Art LaPlante, Co-Owner of E.M. Brown and Sons, the small building that was once the old blacksmith shop was pulled from the bramble and restored. The new forge fired up for the first time during the 152nd Annual Orleans County Fair.

Little Farm Hands is an educational mock-farm tour where children 3 to 10 years old are able to experience first-hand, the agricultural process by doing farm chores at each miniature barn filled with faux animals. Children help with farm chores by collecting corn, gathering the eggs and wool, peddling mini tractors, milking the mechanical cow and collecting fruits and vegetables. The goods they collect are then “sold” at the farmer’s market and they receive “earnings” for their hard work on the farm. They can bring their “earnings” to the Little Farmer’s Store, the final miniature barn in the exhibit, to buy products, many of which are made in Vermont.
This popular Roaring Brook Park attraction was the idea of Roberta Royer; it opened for business in 2012. The Little Farm Hands is truly a community supported effort. The Lake Region Building Trades Class helped in the construction of the barns, each barn is sponsored by a different local business, and every year businesses continue to support the project by supplying food times, and other materials to keep the farm alive. We are also grateful to the organizations, that lend volunteers to help our little farmers navigate the exhibit. |
Enjoy the sweet taste of liquid gold in the Maple House, run by the Vermont’s Orleans County Maple Producers. The Maple House comes alive each August during the Orleans County Fair, and at various other times throughout the year to promote the industry and education the public about maple.
